Say Goodbye To Mold The Natural Way

If you discover mold growing in your home, it is never a good thing. In its toxic form, mold can cause allergic reactions in people. Even family pets can experience allergies to mold. Toxic mold can cause health problems such as nausea, skin rashes, sore throats, sneezing, and other symptoms. It can also cause serious breathing problems. People who have compromised immune systems may be very sensitive to mold.

Once this mold is found somewhere in your home it is necessary to deal with it as quickly as possible. Mold will only continue to grow and come back if it is not killed completely. Mold can be caused by many different things. Water leaks are one of the main sources. Make sure you have no leaks behind your walls where your sinks, bathtubs, showers, or washing machines are located. Mold growth behind walls can be very difficult to kill and in many cases the walls will have to be torn out and replaced.

Basements that have a lot of moisture, especially during wet or winter seasons, can also be a place where mold will often be found. Using a humidifier or fan can help reduce moisture and humidity. If you have a serious problem with moisture in your basement it would be wise to hire a professional to solve the problem. This way the mold will be gone and will not keep recurring.

These are only a few places where you might find mold. Mold can grow in your bathroom near or in sinks, tubs, or around the base of your toilets. Check under the sink in the kitchen for mold growth as well. If you do find mold in these areas you should kill it right away.

Chlorine bleach or other toxic cleaners may not be a good option to use if you are sensitive, have children and pets, or if you had just rather use a natural product that will work well. Tea tree oil can be used to kill mold. It does have a pretty strong smell that some people do not like. It can also be a little expensive, but a little will go a long way. Since tea tree oil is often used for medicinal purposes, it is safe to use.

Another popular natural product that is good for cleaning is vinegar. Vinegar is used for cleaning many things. It can be run through your coffeemaker. It will clean the inside really well and remove the bitterness that can get into your coffee from the build -up of residue. Use vinegar full strength in a spray bottle to kill mold. If you are using it on fabric, dilute it with water first. There is no need to rinse vinegar from most surfaces.

A third natural cleaning product is Borax. Borax is an effective method used to kill mold growth naturally. It can work well for walls and cement. Try mixing about a cup of borax to a gallon of water. Use a scrub brush to clean the area thoroughly. Wait a few days and if there is a dusty residue, vacuum it off. Do not mix vinegar and borax because they will neutralize each other and become ineffective.

Using natural products to reduce our exposure to unwanted chemicals has become a common practice in the world today. We use chemical free toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent and dish soap to detoxify the environment in which we live. It is good to know that there are even natural options in the fight against toxic mold.
