Tree Removal Made simple

While many homes and properties are barren of big trees and lots of branches that cannot be said as much of Brisbane suburbs. From public parks and schools to thousands of privately owned back yards, there's certainly no lack of foliage to be found.

The home handyman, however, will often attempt the tree removal himself. This can be a dangerous decision and its success or failure will depend on not only having the right skills, but care and attention to safety.
 
Essential Safety Measures
 
Anyone who is considering doing a DIY tree cutting project there are some safety tips that must be followed:
 
Keep yourself hydrated, especially in the summer months, by drinking plenty of water. Dehydration can cause errors of judgment that could jeopardize safety.

Make sure to protect yourself while working outside by wearing 30+ sunscreen lotion on any areas of exposed skin and wear a protective hat at all time.

Wear eye protection, a hard hat, sturdy gloves and safety boots.

Make sure you have checked where the power lines are in relation to the tree you are cutting. If there is a potential hazard then contact your local energy supply company for advice.

Only use a chain saw if you have been trained in its use.
 
Tree Cutting Techniques
 
If the tree is taller than 600cm and more than 25cm in diameter, it's too large to be considered a do-it-yourself project and should be removed by a Brisbane tree removal specialist.
 
A smaller tree should be cut as follows:
 
Make an undercut at a 90 degree angle in the side of the tree. This should be in the direction it will fall.

On the opposite side of the tree, about 5cm higher than the undercut, make another back cut. This helps the tree to fall in the right direction and should definitely not be cut lower than the undercut.

As the tree begins to fall, move well away from the base.

The best place to start removing branches from once the tree is felled is the bottom.
 
Planning and preparation are the keys to a safe and successful result. A task as potentially dangerous as tree removal needs care, concentration and time taken over it.
 
An Alternative Strategy
 
On the surface, cutting down a tree seems like a project that an amateur could undertake. However, there are many considerations, not the least of which is the safety factor, that may sway the backyard handyman into hiring a Brisbane tree removal specialist. Paying for the services of an experienced tree removal specialist may be the best investment you ever made.
