Why Should I ask for References Before Hiring a Caterer?

No matter what kind of event you are holding, the food is going to be one of the things that everyone seems to remember.

Unfortunately, this basic rule usually applies more to a bad experience than a good one. If you have an event coming up where you will be hosting a large number of people, you have likely thought about hiring a caterer. Before you go out and sign someone on the dotted line to your event, it is important to make sure that you will get the best service possible. One way to make sure you find a caterer who can make your event stand out is by asking for references from the different caterers you will come across; here are some reasons for doing so.

You will find out about the caterer’s capabilities. All catering occasions are different; for example, you probably want different food and different styles of dining for a wedding reception than you would for a business meeting. Checking references will mean you are aware of what kind of events the caterer has supplied food for in the past, and if they have the experience to work with you on your event.

It will give you a better idea of what the caterer provides. Not all caterers provide the same services for a meal they are hired to provide; for example, some may take it for granted that they also supply beverages or tea and coffee, while others do not include these things either in the quote or maybe even at all. This is not due to any dishonesty on the part of the caterer; rather, it’s probably something they have never provided so they have not considered it. Asking people who have used the services of the caterer before will help you to know exactly what you can expect.

You will have an idea of the caterer’s qualities. People who have received excellent catering at an event are very aware of it, as are those who receive sub standard services. From the initial service to the set up and take down, those who have used the caterer before will tell you what areas the caterer was really strong in and where they needed improvement.

Hiring the right caterer can really take a load off of your mind when it comes to planning any event. In order to ensure that you get the best service possible, checking references is a must!
